Other complaints are a little further from reality. In a recent symposium held by the Concerned Citizens for Steuben County, one speaker compared the sound of the spinning blades and whirring machinery (which most people find inaudible from fairly close distances) to the noises Nazi troops tortured Jews with during the holocaust. Group members also warned of health problems ranging from strokes caused by the sunlight as it pulsates through the spinning turbine blades to mange in cattle. Others claimed that women living near the wind farms are having as many as five menstrual cycles a month.
Words can't express how absolutely absurd these claims are. I want to rant about it, but I'm dumbfounded by the stupidity of these people.
Yesterday after I ate lunch, my head started hurting pretty bad. I figured it was caffeine withdrawls, so I headed next door to the convenience store to fetch a double-shot espresso and a Dr. Pepper.
I made it back to the shop and drank the espresso, but it didn't do anything for me. Throughout the rest of the day I felt very tired and had a nasty headache.
When I got home, I futzed about online for a bit, then I took a shower and went to bed around 9:30PM... I think between that point and 7:15AM, I maybe got an hour of sleep.
When I got up this morning, my chest was really tight, my stomach was upset, and I had a fever to accompany my headache. Naturally, I was tired as well, from the lack of sleep.
I got to the shop and nearly collapsed when I walked in the door. I spent a good portion of the morning either laying with my head on the counter and my face planted in the filter lookup book, or I was flat on my back on the floor.
Around 4:00, the daily rush (which we've not had all week) started. I made it through it okay, then collapsed on the floor. At 6:00, we got the shop closed up and I was out the door by 6:15. It's now 6:30 and I'm going to take a shower then go lay down for the night, and hopefully sleep.
Today, we had less than 10 cars roll through the shop in a 10 hour period. Nearly the entire cleaning list was done, and the shop was immaculate.
Around 5:00, the boss lady popped up on the instant messenger and asked if I could enable a certain feature on the website. I told her that I needed to put some time into it, but it was hard to since I was at work. I asked her if they would mind if I worked on it there at the shop, and she said she would talk to the boss dude about it.
Sooo... I'll be working on the business site for a while, Blog 2.0 is on hold again, and I might be working from the shop.
I just got a message on my cell phone stating that I have to start paying $0.05 per text message I send OR receive. It used to be free to receive them. Grr.
Because someone was being stupid and wouldn't knock off the crap off topic comments, and because I have no idea who they were, and because they evaded the initial ban by renewing their DHCP lease, the ban now covers everyone with a 69.231.. IP address.
If the crap continues, the ban will become far more strict.
I've decided to take the bold and blunt approach. Now, it's just down to making it happen.
Okay, so I just came to a conclusion: I've gotten too old too quickly. I'm coming up on year #24 that I've lived on this planet, and I really haven't done anything yet.
Instead of just sitting back and whining about it, I'm going to do something about it. As a result, here are my goals for 2006:
I'll add to this later. I'll also keep everyone posted on the outcome of everything.
I started working on a new layout for this site a bit ago, but I've gotten bored with it and I don't think I like it.
Take a look at it here. It's incomplete and has a rendering bug that I don't feel like fixing.
Feel free to comment.
There are two types of communication:
Neither is superior to the other, overall, but each does have its proper application.
So yesterday, before I left the work to go see the back doctor, Boss Dude gave me something he thought I would find interesting.
It is a folder with some really old lecture notes/transcripts for a computer programming class. Also enclosed is an old punchcard, the old storage medium for computer programs.
In the literature, this line exists:
"Currently the most important internal type storage is the magnetic core memories."
If you know what that is, it will a) tell you how old this stuff is, and b) make you laugh.
So this afternoon, I helped Dad change the water pump on the Blazer. I figured it would have been a painstaking process, but it went relatively smooth. (I won't mention the whole part about boiling the radiator...)
Anyhow, when we got done, I offered to buy supper, and I called home to gather Mom's opinion on what to get. I suggested pizza or tacos, and she said she'd rather have tacos. I went to Taco Bell and stood in line for about 2 minutes, when I heard the girl behind the counter say, "We're all out of beef..."
Straight away, I went back to my truck and called Pizza Hut, placed my order, and asked how long it would be for it to be ready. The girl I talked to said she had no idea, so I asked her if 20 minutes would be sufficient, to which she agreed.
From there, I went over to Wal-Mart to kill some time and see about spending some money on something. I walked in and browsed through their puny electronics section, then over to automotive, and back over to sporting goods, which is where I finally picked up something to purchase (a padded case for my rifle).
I headed up to the checkout lanes, and every one of them had a line of 10+ customers. Finally, they announced that lane #3 was opening, and I was right there, so I attempted to walk over to the register. Someone else found it necessary to be in front of me, cut me off, and threw all their stuff on the conveyer belt. Someone else attempted the same thing, with a full cart of goods to purchase, noticed that I had only one thing, and suggested that I go ahead of them.
After finally making out of that Hell-hole, I went on over to Pizza Hut to pick up my order. I got informed that it would be 5 minutes, but I was more than welcome to pay. I paid, waited about 20 minutes, then finally got my food.
Driving home, I noticed that everyone who was open tonight was very busy. Why? I have no idea. I do know that people are being very stupid tonight, though.
I never had a day where money didn't get in my way I never listened to much Elvis I can't remember a warm December
It's been a while since I've put anything in this category. Have some lyrics from a good song.
I just ran a query on the database for this site...
mysql> INSERT INTO blog_bans
-> VALUES(0, '69.231.145.113', '3', '1/6/06', 'If you want to access the site still, you know how to contact me. Grow up and I\'ll let you back in.'); Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
"Many Moons VII", grow up.
Well, I was right... I didn't sleep much last night.
In addition to the previous mentioned topics, I messed my back up at work yesterday, doing something completely normal and routine. All I did was lean over a fender and reach for an oil filter. I've done it hundreds of times before, and it's never been an issue. Last night it was though.
When I got home, my back hurt. I knew I would be in a bit of pain from it. I went to bed and every way I would lie, I would be in pain. If I would breathe, it would hurt. If I did nothing, it would hurt.
By the time I fell out of bed at 7:15 this morning, I was in terrible shape. I slept the night flat on my back, which is something I NEVER do. When I got up to get ready for work, I was only able to stand about 5 feet high, if that. I looked like Quasimodo or something, and I moved a lot slower than the 80-year-old man who's car I was working on when I did this.
I got to work a lot later than usual, but still on time. When I got out of the truck, "Big Dude" thought I was playing around, until I snapped at him for a comment he made. It took me almost 5 minutes to make the 30 yard trek from my truck to the shop, and everything I did was uncomfortable.
I called "Boss Dude" right away and let him know what happened and that I was in a lot of pain and moving really slow. He said that he would try to get to the shop as close to 11:00 as he could, so that I could head south to see my chiropractor.
Well, now it's 3:30PM and I've been to the doctor and back to the shop. Everyone agreed that I needed time off and that I needed to heal up, so I'm not working again until Monday at noon. I also tabulated the cost of this doctor visit, which resulted in about a $70 total ($38 for the visit, $10 for gas, and $20 for lunch). I hope that I don't have to go for another office visit, because #1 - it's expensive, and #2 - it takes me away from the things I have to do.
I'm still in pain, by the way, but not near as much as I was.
