Starting January 1, 2006, I would like to see a big change. This change is going to be in terms of contributions and visits.

So here's the deal: No later than 02/28/06, I want to see 10 people commit to contributing here. The contributions need not follow any specific topic or format, but there will be a few rules in place, which I will establish before 01/01/06.

Each contributor will be expected to submit at least one entry per week. If after 4 weeks an entry is not made by a specific user without valid reason, they will be replaced with a user who will contribute as expected.

With the addition of new contributors, I fully expect new viewing members. I would like to see us break the 1,000 unique visitors per month mark, and maybe even see two to three thousand unique visitors.

If you are interested in filling the position of "contributing blogger", or know someone who is, send an email to blogapps AT skudd DOT com and include your name, age, location, website URL, and a brief description of why you feel you should be a contributor and what you will blog about.

Rules will be posted within the next week.

I hate the internet and the people who create this crap. This picture implies that true love is defined by a female chest. Lovely. Just lovely.

Well, thanks to some pretty good show of interest, we've hit the 1,000,000 point mark already. (See here...)

Great work guys.

Now, keep in mind that since we've met our goal, the work doesn't stop. There's still a lot of research going on and a lot of people in the world who need the successful outcome of it.

Okay, so I just figured I'd jump on The Facebook to see if anything has changed in the site and the way I feel about those kind of sites, and I feel sick to my stomach now.

The concept is cool, but at the same time I think it sucks. It takes all the fun and trivia out of making friends in the physical world, rather than the digital world. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy making new friends online, but when you're at the mercy of "x-degrees of separation", it's just not the same.

I imagine part of this disgust I have for the sites stems from a project gone sour, but that's just a small part. The rest of it is just... ARGH! I hate those sites!

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, let me present you with a little flowchart:

Social Networks Concept

Probably what bothers me the most about the concept is that you're also assigned friends according to your interests, age, zodiac sign, school, hometown, shoe size, favorite movie, hair color, or the last time you relieved yourself. There's no real choosing in who you pick for your friends. I'm sorry, but that's what I like about life -- Being able to pick who's my friend.

So yeah. I despise those sites. I don't want someone telling me who should be my friend. That's my choice.

Well, I had to pass up an opportunity to visit another foreign country.

My cousin married a guy over in Cairo, Egypt, and moved over there to live with him. She took her young daughter with her too. There was something about the schooling she was going through, and it wouldn't let her go past our second grade equivalent. To help get past this, my aunt is sending books over for her, but she can only send so many. She's planning on taking a flight over sometime within the next couple months to hand-deliver some of the books, but wanted someone to go with her.

She asked my mom, but my mom declined because of the whole flying issue. (My mom won't set foot in an airplane.) After she asked my mom, she asked me if I wanted to go. I told her I would have to think about it, and I left it at that.

When we got home yesterday from the family outing/reunion/party, my mom told me I should go, and that I should take out a loan to go. This way I could see some foreign countries (there has been talk of a possible layover flight in Amsterdam), get a passport, get some experience flying, and have a way to build some credit (the whole loan thing).

There are several reasons I can think of in regards to why I won't go, but for the most part it is the whole concept of taking a flight just for books at the last minute, to a country and city that has a reputation of being very cold towards outsiders. I would prefer to not have my first trip to the eastern continents be to a country even somewhat hostile towards my nationality. Also, I would like to have better circumstances to go, and more freedom to do things that I want.

To my aunt, if you're reading this, I don't have anything against you and I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I just do not feel comfortable with the entire situation. Thank you very much for the offer, though.

So just now, in my bit of boredom, I decided to write a little code for something I've needed for quite a while: A file upload/download center.

I didn't get much more than the file directory [somewhat] created, and I realized something: It wasn't fun!

I used to code for fun. I used to code because I enjoyed it. I used to code because I liked to see things evolve from beginning to end.

Many things have happened that have soured me on the concept of coding:

First off, I've wasted the last 6 years of my life, trying to get into the computing industry, specifically the programming industry, by going to school, working on my own projects, doing a bit of freelance work, and interview after interview after interview. Now, I am stuck on what I started learning about 4 years ago, and I have gone nowhere. The languages I started with are now outdated and are scarcely used, the concepts are old and bulky, and nearly every that I would need to code today has been done and done well!

Second, I've had to go back into the field I tried to get away from: Automotive. Working on cars used to be a hobby for me, and it was fun. Then I started working on cars as my day job, and it got dull in a hurry. I've done almost anything you can imagine when it comes to working on a car (within financial reason), and there really is nothing new to me. Plus, a few things happened in that employment position that left a sour taste in my mouth and my back hurting forever. I went to school, I studied, I graduated with honors, and I had hope. That hope was all shattered when I saw that the skills that I supposedly acquired from college were meaningless and insufficent. After making a solid attempt to go back to school, my financial situation took a turn that I didn't want, and I basically got told that I was not allowed to go back to school again for a long long time.

Third, I have been soured by nearly every web project I have even attempted to complete. The first one went to crap before it was finished, because of who I had to work with. The second one went dormant less than a month after I completed it, and I found out just the other day that they don't want it anymore. The third one has been sitting dormant since I got it done back in April. The fourth one has been sitting dormant since not long after that. The fifth one I tried ended up biting me in the rear. The sixth was okay, but is sitting dormant. The remaining ~5 aren't even done because of poor communication skills on the customers' part. I do have 1 that is waiting on me, but it's really hard to do anything when I have nothing to look forward to. Everything I've done in the past has been over-the-top, and ended up collecting dust.

The fourth reason I have for not wanting to code anymore is lack of motivation and energy. Since I've had to go back to the automotive field, I've been working upwards of 60 hours a week. By the time I get home, the last thing I want to do is work more.

So what would it take for me to want to start coding again? New territory, new projects, better pay, and more time to actually work on them. At this point in time, that's far from possible though.

Okay, so there's this band that most people have never in their life heard of: Big Wreck. The band no longer exists, as such, but the lead vocalist, Ian Thornley, is still working on recording music.

Anyhow, the song "Ladylike" is simply amazing. They lyrics aren't necessarily what's striking about the song, but the music is just... Wow.

The song starts out with a really "tinny" banjo loop playing in both the right and the left channels, but the right channel is delayed by about 1 beat. Next, the bass line comes in, followed by a weird percussive guitar, followed by the drums, which are then followed by the lead guitar.

Shortly after the bass line starts, the vocals start. And after the first pre-chorus, a second voice jumps in.

This all continues right up to the end of the song.

All I can say is find this song and listen to it. The music is amazing, in my opinion.

I am getting really f'ing sick and tired of this crap. It seems like people always come to me with questions, wait for my answer, then tell me I'm wrong. I don't care what the question is, but I am always wrong somehow.

Q: "What is your name?" A: "Tim." R: "That's not right... I'm going to argue with you about it now..."

Q: "What is the name of our planet?" A: "Earth." R: "No... It's something else... You're wrong..."

Q: "Are you dead or alive?" A: "Apparently I'm alive." R: "No you're not! You're dead! FREAKY!!!"

Q: "What is Linux?" A: "A free operating system, licensed primarily under the GPL." R: "No.. You're talking about something else. I know it has something to do with cheese..."

KNOCK IT OFF, PEOPLE!

The next person that pulls this crap on be is going to get their eyes gouged out with a soda bottle.
