Okay, so I just figured I'd jump on The Facebook to see if anything has changed in the site and the way I feel about those kind of sites, and I feel sick to my stomach now.

The concept is cool, but at the same time I think it sucks. It takes all the fun and trivia out of making friends in the physical world, rather than the digital world. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy making new friends online, but when you're at the mercy of "x-degrees of separation", it's just not the same.

I imagine part of this disgust I have for the sites stems from a project gone sour, but that's just a small part. The rest of it is just... ARGH! I hate those sites!

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, let me present you with a little flowchart:

Social Networks Concept

Probably what bothers me the most about the concept is that you're also assigned friends according to your interests, age, zodiac sign, school, hometown, shoe size, favorite movie, hair color, or the last time you relieved yourself. There's no real choosing in who you pick for your friends. I'm sorry, but that's what I like about life -- Being able to pick who's my friend.

So yeah. I despise those sites. I don't want someone telling me who should be my friend. That's my choice.
