And the DC is now back online! :)

Just a quick note to let everyone know that gm.skudd.com and sh.skudd.com are going to be down for...uh... datacenter maintenance. The rest of skudd.com should be unaffected by this outage. I don't expect this downtime to last more than today.

You know what's annoying? One person thinking that they're superior to you, just because they caught something that you possibly overlooked.

I mean, let's say you're standing in a supermarket, shopping for that perfect cut of meat. You're standing there in the meat section, eyeing over the packs of pork chops, and you grab the one that just so happened to catch your eye. After you make your pick, someone else comes up behind you with the same agenda, and sees an even better package of chops. As they pick up the pork chops, they say, "Haha... Dude, you just totally passed up the best pack of chops ever. You're such a retard for doing so, too."

Maybe the first person though that their pick of meat was better than the second person's. Maybe the butcher came out and stocked the cooler right after the first person made their selection. Whatever the case may be, the choice the first person made was the appropriate choice at the time, and they did their best to find the most perfect slice.

This applies to life in so many ways, I can't even begin to label them. All I can say is that if you find yourself in the second person's shoes, think twice before opening your mouth. Better yet, maybe go offer the better selection to the first person.

The spam project has a new look and new database, finally. I've forked it off as a project of its own, and I'm working on getting things in place to make it look good and work well.

As you can see, the numbers have changed a lot with this new graph. Why? Because it's accurate now. There are 937 recorded IP addresses right now that have been confirmed as spammers by means of various methods.

I've added the ability to track the last "payload" that the spammer has submitted, in the form of a serialized PHP array. So far it has been working well. Also worked into it, any return visits will automatically mark an IP address as "black". I'm working on ideas to identify similarity between payloads to help narrow down what is and isn't spam. I'll probably end up using the MySQL SOUNDEX() functions for this, and run it in batches manually. Soon there will be interfaces for you to use in your own projects! Yay!

So every night around 7:00, this jerk on a loud motorcycle rides by and revs it up really high right outside my apartment. Tonight, he went by right when I was trying to hear something on the TV, and I missed what was said.

I've decided that I want to get a paintball gun, and hide out on my balcony with it for the next time he comes around, disturbing my peace.

I have internet at my apartment now.

That is all.

I'll have some big-ish news for you all Sunday evening. Stay tuned.

Posted by tim in Cycling on March 27, 2007

So I've started riding my bike again. Since Sunday, I've logged about 10 miles, just riding from my apartment to the office and back a couple times. Tonight I just about took it a little farther, but I figured I need to do the 5 mile rides a few times before I start pushing myself.

At any rate, I feel good tonight after that ride, and my legs don't really even hurt. Yay!

It's kinda boring not having internet, but I find myself being able to concentrate on other projects for the time being. As long as I can get the cable company to the apartment sometime in the next week, I should be able to get internet in that place. I'm going to try and call them and see if they can do their thing then just drop off the modem for me to deal with. We'll see if it works out that way though.

In other news, the "w" key on my laptop is hyperactive. If you so much as look at it, it enters a character wherever you're typing. Kinda odd, but I can deal...for now...

I have a blog?

Posted by tim in I Feel Sick on March 7, 2007

I was spaced out all day, and still am. I started losing my voice sometime around 5:00PM, which made answering phones rather interesting.

I have a sinus infection and I'm still going to work. I feel so spaced out right now.

I blame Paula.

So I really want to load up and go camping now. It'd be cool to have a couple people along, but for the most part, I just want to get away and relax.

Stuff I would need:

  1. A tent
  2. A sleeping bag
  3. Firestarting gear
  4. A small hatchet
  5. A survival knife
  6. Flashlight and batteries
  7. Car charger for my iPod
  8. 7 days off from work
  9. Food stuffs

Anyone want to help out? :-D

I got my e-mail straightened out, but I had to nuke my Thunderbird profile in doing so. I've been able to maintain my address books, but all my old messages and filters needed to vanish. Otherwise, I'm back in business.

Posted by tim in Pissed on March 3, 2007

I woke up this morning to 4 new messages in my inbox. I tried to open one, and it displayed another. I tried the rest with the same issue. I even tried using the "Edit as New" option in Thunderbird, and nothing happened in my favor.

As such, I am disabling my e-mail client until I get home tomorrow night, so I don't miss anything important. If you need to send anything to me, send it to my GMail account.
