Did you know that I am supposed to be paying my mom $200 per month to live here, not including food and transportation costs?
Mom had me go sit at the kitchen table. She tried to be all professional about it, by having some sort of meeting. This meeting was to tell me that I am responsible for 1/3 of the bills in this house since I live here. I was told that since I am capable of working, I need to be working full-time to help provide income for this house.
When I brought up the fact that better money management needs to happen, I got a sob story about how while my sisters and I were growing up, and Dad was working, Mom had to stay home and "do without". I let her know that I did appreciate that, but that it isn't a valid argument now. I asked her how many times a week she goes out to eat, and guess what... SHE AVOIDED THE DAMNED QUESTION!! She said that it takes too much time and gas for her to drive home and back to work every day. When I told her to take her lunch, she said "I'm not going to stay at the bank to eat every day!" She doesn't get it... When I worked at the body shop, I had to come home. Sure, it was only a little under a mile from home, but still! Also, when I worked my ass off at the factory, I had to take my lunch and eat there! Guess what else... I BOUGHT GENERIC FOOD AND TOOK IT!!!
She said that if I'm so damned concerned about having food in the house that I need to pitch in and buy groceries.
Just before I walked away from the kitchen table, she said something about how I am going to have to sell what I can to help out or I have to get out. I said, "Well, time for me to go find a box to live in then", to which she replied with "That's not what I meant." She just sat at the table trying to talk to me about it, mainly arguing, but I just yelled "I'm not getting into that right now" and ignored her.
Did you know that I have no social life and that working 40+ hours a week will solve that? HA!
Oh, get this... I have to pay $200 a month to live here now, but after the first of the year and when I start school I have to pay $300 a month.

First off, I know this is a really old blog entry to be commenting on - I don't care. It's my site and I'll do what I want. :)
Anyhow, we have all been at this point, I think. We're living at home with Mom and Dad, and we expect a free ride. I can honestly and happily say that I was more wrong than ever when I wrote this entry and that Mom was right.
I am now living on my own, paying $400+ per month for housing, $300 per month on my car, and a mysterious $800 in other random expenses. I would HAPPILY trade all that for the offer Mom gave me back then.
